    It's been a while!
I haven't posted on here in a long time- I've been mainly blogging on MySpace- so here's an update since my last post, for the 2 or 3 that read this LOL:

*Speaking of MySpace, I erased and redid my page a couple of months ago. I thought my password might have been stolen b/c I left my page logged in at the library. Plus, I was using an old email as a login. It's a much better page now LOL.

*I updated my resume on the online job-hunting sites, put in applications at 6 or 7 different places plus asked around at a few others... and struck out everywhere. Other than a temp place called Adecco (which I'm about to take my name out of their system), no callbacks or interviews. I've given myself 'til August 1st, then I'm going to apply again at the new St. Matthews Target. It's not what I planned on doing but it's a place that I know I can get a job with.

*Derby City Knights could not get the membership to even be a mini-corps so we are competing this year as a Brass Ensemble (basically solo/ensemble) plus different solos and small groups at Rochester. I'm not thrilled with it but I'm glad that we can actually get to Rochester this year.

*FASFA filled out and accepted into JCC but I STILL couldn't go to school this summer!! Not having a job did it in- I couldn't afford school and rent, even with aid. Oh well, try again later....

*After about an 18-month cease-fire, my knees decided to start the war again about a month ago... with an all-out assault: Tendonitis and Prepateller Bursitis (right knee), Tubercle inflammation (left knee). It's been a physically rough battle to keep the swelling and inflammation down.

*I'm completely hooked on "True Blood" now, thanks to Angela!

*I have some very... "loud"... neighbors :-S

That's all I can think of at the moment. Here's my MySpace page, if you're interested: http://www.myspace.com/codebreaker30

    This and That
*March- this is my favorite time of year in sports!! College basketball's post-season is starting, baseball is wrapping up Spring Training, and the NHL's season is starting to wind down!

*I appreciate the "talk" (Facebook chat, lol) I had with J.R. and Angela a few days ago. I needed to say that to *someone* and I'm glad they were there to listen, even if it was a little more personal than I had attended. ;-)

*I finally got my separation package from Target a couple of weeks ago. Even though over half of it is gone already, it's nice to know that almost all of my bills/debts have been paid off, paid on, or paid current; only student loans are behind. I actually have a little extra $$$ for me, for a change! ;-)

*I'm going to redo my resume and re-post it on LouisvilleHelpWanted.com and CareerBuilders.com (and any other local .com site). The thing that's hurting me with a job the most, at the moment: no degree. I'm being a little picky by trying to stay away from retail but I'll take most whatever's out there, as long as it's not too big of a pay cut from what I was making at Target.

*I never really realized just how worn down and unfunned (that's now a word- lol) I was until I wasn't working. Feeling ok now, though!!

    2009, so far
After a ridiculously bad and stressful start, it looks like things in 2009 are making a turn. Well, it *feels* like something's turning but in which direction?... only time will tell.

I know that I'm getting almost double back what I expected to get from my tax returns, which will help me A LOT! I'm also guessing that my severance package from Target is going to be pretty good; this will let me take at least a month off from any kind of work before I start looking for a new job. I'm also thinking about going to a gym of some sort. I would like to get back into the cardio shape I was in while marching DCK last summer; I've dropped about 15 pounds since then, mainly from eating better (not exactly "healthier", just eating less snacks, drinking *much* less pop, and keeping fast foods to about half of what I used to eat), and would like to drop another 5-10 pounds in fat, while adding more muscle.

I've started to get more involved with my guild in World of Warcraft. Strange, since I generally mostly play only on the weekends (plus an hour or so a couple of times on weekdays).

I'm going to fill out a FASFA sometime this weekend, also. I don't know if I can get back into school this summer, but it doesn't hurt to have Financial Aid there, waiting for me if I do go back. Wish me luck!

Social life's still a bit of a joke but I've to terms with it. I'm not gonna get my hopes up as high as I have in the past, on all fronts. Just whatever happens, happens lol.

Other than that, not a lot going on. I'm going to Cincinnati next Thursday and Friday to help open a Target, then our store closes that next week.

    In 2008, I realized that...
(...it's been a while since I've written on here hehe)

... I made the right decision in leaving Target when the store closes on 2/7/09 (for those who don't know- my store is closing for a total remodel and will be re-opening in October of 2009). I liked working for Target, I liked almost all of the people I've worked with over the years. But the last year to 18 months have been, for the most part, frustrating and stressful to the point that it's affecting me physically. So it's time to say goodbye to the Bullseye and head off in another direction!

... I need find a way to take a vacation OUT OF LOUISVILLE once the store closes. It could be for 2-3 days or 2 weeks. It could be just to Indianapolis or Cincinnati... or it could be Memphis, St. Louis, or further. I need to get away from the 'Ville and So. Indiana LOL!!

... I've lost touch with too many people. It's nice to be able to "talk" (Facebook/MySpace) with people that I haven't seen in months, years, even decades.

... 3 of my friends were right when they blogged/put in statuses: "nice guys finish last". You can't spin it any other way.

... I could have made even more of an effort to get back into school and finish up. I need to put school ahead of work- my best semesters at UofL came when my work availability was scheduled around classes. I don't know if I'll have that kind of flexibility at another job when I go back but if I do, school will be priority. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do *when* I get back, though.

... 2009 is THE season for the Derby City Knights, good or bad. We've made our decision about corps status (mini-corps), our show, and where we are rehearsing (on that note- it's a shame that we can't get ANY cooperation from JCPS or UofL when it comes to rehearsal sites but once we go outside of Jefferson County, we are fine...). Now we have to add players to the ones that we have coming back, mold everyone into one solid unit, and gear up for Labor Day Weekend '09 in Rochester, NY.

... I am balder (natural balding) and as grey or grey-er (at 30) than my older brother (at 40)! lol

    ... that I will make 2009 better than 2008!!

After coming home to a tree laying across power lines on Wednesday... and having no power, I finally have power again!

Now, if only I could get a new cell phone.... ;-)

    My time...?
When will it be my time...

...to get out of debt? It's not a *huge* debt, but there are bills hanging over my head that I would like to get rid of soon

...to get enough hours at work to not be completely broke when I pay rent? And on that note... when will it be my time to finally leave Target? The *ONLY* reason I'm still there is b/c I make nearly $12/hour

...to get more than 5 hours of sleep on work nights? It's going on 2 years of averaging 5-6 hours/night and I'm starting to wear down

...to not sit at home, bored on Friday and Saturday nights, since I'm car-less and am not a huge drinker?

...to stop saying "I've never done this/that" to so much stuff, from small stuff like eating at certain places to more "personal" things?

...to get back into school? And to afford to *stay* in school?

...to go on a true vacation with friends and/or family, where the trip isn't band/drum corps related? I've had some great times on those trips but I would love to take 3-6 days and just go somewhere, have fun, and not have to worry about anything else

A little frustrated with things, can't ya tell?? ;-)

After Reading DCK's Summer Schedule Again...
From 7/13 to 8/24, the number of days off from Target/DCK (plus a wedding and an FU5 event): 2 (7/28- the day after the Wisconsin tour and 8/18- the day after performing at CCHS's football game). A test of endurance....

-I've FINALLY... after 4 months... settled into my new position as Signing Specialist at Target!! I think I have a semi-routine down where I can get my stuff done, while having enough to do on Thursday and Friday every week (I take care of putting up the different graphics, signing, and hanging signs throughout the store; I also order new fixtures, shelves, signs, and most other parts that the store needs plus replace the broken ones). Usually, I'll help out the Planogram team if my workload is light. I don't like getting up at 4:45-5:15 in the morning but it's a small price to pay. ;-)

-Derby City Knights is going pretty decent this season, especially in the last month or so when we started rehearsing outside (ironic that the last camp may have been the best one, even though it was nearly 100 all weekend and add 10-20 degrees for being on a concrete parking lot). We have most of our summer schedule, so come check us out at a rehearsal or performance and say hi to me. ;-) Rehearsals are ~8-8 on Saturdays and ~8-5 on Sundays:

*6/14-15: rehearsal (at Meade County HS)
*6/27 (Friday ~4-10) and 6/28: rehearsal (Carroll County HS in Carrollton)
*7/1: DCI Lexington. We aren't performing but a few of us may be there, handing out fliers at a booth
*7/7: DCI Louisville. Same as Lexington but most of the Louisville members of DCK will probably be there
*7/11 (Friday- just added this morning): rehearsal. I won't be there on the 12th
    *7/19-20: rehearsal at CCHS
*7/26: parade and competition in Milwaukee, WI
    *7/27: competition in Racine, WI
    *8/2: competition in Hendersonville, TN
*8/3: rehearsal (Hendersonville or Nashville, TN)
*8/9-10 (just added): rehearsal at CCHS
*8/16-17: TBA. We may be performing at CCHS for their opening football game; if not, we'll be at CCHS for an extensive rehearsal
*8/23-24: TBA. We will either be at CCHS for a rehearsal or at Muhlenburg for a KMEA competition on the 23rd
**8/28-9/2: DCA World Championships in Rochester, NY

    Wish us luck!!

    NBA Playoffs- Western Conference
I'm not a huge NBA fan during the regular season but I will occasionally watch the playoffs. This season, the Western Conference playoffs of the NBA is so loaded with really good teams that I bought into the hype and started watching/following it more. The most talked about 1st round series is the Spurs-Suns, which Fox Sports and ESPN Radio are both hyping as possibly "the best 1st round series in history". Well, if last night's 2 OT thriller, won by the Spurs, is any indication, then they may be right...! A 3 by San Antonio with seconds left to force the 1st OT... by TIM DUNCAN!...; A 3 by Thomas to force the 2nd OT; Steve Nash hitting a 3 to tie the game with less than 15 seconds left- falling out-of-bounds only to have Manu Ginobli hit a layup with 1.8 seconds to win it.... GREAT defense played by both teams... it's definitely got my interest!

Now, if only the Stanley Cup playoffs were on more than just Saturday afternoons on NBC....

    Amazed
It's amazing to me: I had a very good time at lunch with Heather and Krista on Friday in Jeffersonville and Derby City's camp in Carrollton went pretty well, with the usual ridiculousness thrown in ;-)... but I've felt like crap (emotionally/mentally) once I get back to Louisville; it's been like that for a little bit now (the same things that were bothering in my MySpace blog). I don't know how to fix it, either....

    It's back!
*I FINALLY have Internet back at my place after about 7 months! It saves me having to make trips trips to UofL whenever I need to get online for something. This also means that I'm back on WoW... somewhat. I'll be on for a few minutes whenever I can.

*Our Drum Corps director is still in the hospital, 2 weeks after his illness in Chicago. He's slowly regaining strength in his arms and legs. We didn't realize just how close we were to losing him until last night when one of his friends emailed the group about Matt. Put him in your thoughts and prayers, if you could, please.

Why is the AIR CONDITIONING on in the lab?!
*After nearly 3 weeks of deposits, returned checks, tax refunds, withdrawls, and almost everything else imaginable, I've finally gotten my bank account under control. I still have to decide what I'm going to do this Friday with rent/LG&E/student loans/Internet (sucks having to pay rent on back-to-back checks...), but everything else is fine... finally.

*DCK camps have been pretty good so far. This past one was a bit rough but we all got through it. I did find out that DCI won't have a Louisville show this year, which is sad. I was hoping to actually MARCH a Derby City show in front of a hometown crowd but we'll have to wait until 2009. We may be doing the Lexington show, however. I know that we are going back to Nashville- the site of our best performance last season.

*Something that has me a little concerned: I've been fighting dizziness, light-headedness, and extreme tiredness off and on for the last 5 or 6 days. It was really bad last Thursday and Friday but went away for most of Saturday. Sunday was kinda bad but it was gone Monday and yesterday. But today it came back. I don't think it's dehydration (but I'm not a doctor, either). It may be what I'm eating or NOT eating. It could be that I'm just tired from stress (up until about 10 days ago, I had been really stressed out for a long time about $$$ and other stuff). Maybe I'm just old. ;-) Whatever it is, if it's still there in the morning, I'm calling in to work.

*If Hilary Clinton and John McCain win their primaries, is that a sign that I should move to Canada? Just curious.... ;-)

    Change of scenery...?
*I have an interview some time this regarding a promotion at Target. I'll find out when either early Monday or Tuesday morning- wish me luck!!

*I could REALLY use a hug and/or kiss right now....

*Bank account's in flames b/c of a mistake by City Check and a filing mistake on my taxes (I wanted my refund to get to me in 2-3 days; I picked 8-15 and realized it too late). I'm REALLY worried about my rent check; I'm VERY overdrawn (until refund gets here) but my rent checlk hasn't come in yet. Best case scenario is that the bank accepts it but overdraws me more. If it bounces, I AM SCREWED...!

*I think it's time for me to take a true vacation from Louisville for a few days or so. There hasn't been much going for me here lately- VERY boring weekends, stress at work and with money at home, and no social life. First I have to get enough vacation hrs. at work, but after that... maybe a trip to Indy or Chicago? Maybe Nashville or even W. Lafayette? Who knows... all I know is that I need some fun and so far, I haven't found a lot of it recently. And it's really making me feel like crap.

    This 'n that
Some of the things that have been going on with me....

-I'm back to working about 30 hours a week at Target, woth the promise of more once the *gasp* Holiday season starts in 3 weeks. I like the fact that I'm being used on the Salesfloor, Electronics/Entertainment, Planogram, Photo Lab, and Stockroom teams- gives a good variety to the week.

-"The Second Coming (I like that song and the unofficial motto)": DCK 2008 starts in 2 months- it's going to be a great season!

-I'm single... and have mixed feelings about it. It's strange because my 1st ever relationship didn't happen until this past May (not a lot of people knew that ;-)).

-I'm going to 4th Street this Friday to hang out with friends that I haven't seen in months (Sam, Lindsy, Liz, Kate(?)) or even years (Amanda Stewart, Amanda Davis). I'm really looking forward to having a good time there. And I won't be drinking. :-P Although, I may buy a Beam and Coke (I've had a couple this summer). ;-)

-I want to start back at UofL in the Spring but I don't know if money will allow it. I'm getting the hours that I needed from Target but it may be too little, too late. I'll wait and see what things look like the closer I get to January (as of right now, I still plan on taking 9 hours).

-My left knee is healed! My right knee is getting there! :-D

    -I'm the current FU5 champion. :-P

-Other than that, I'm just trying to enjoy what life throws at me... and trying not to be too hard on myself. Thanks to [info]mbjar2000 for a much-needed talk about beating myself up over small stuff. Hopefully, it'll be a fun and successful Fall!!

    DCK's competitions this season
*After Nashville, we performed in Georgia on 8/18-19. On the 18th, we played in Rockmart... and did not play that well. I think the 10-hour drive down, then playing a few hours later, plus the 100 degree heat took its toll on us. Our performance wasn't horrible, it was "meh".

On the 19th, we traveled to Alpharetta, a suburb of Atlanta. We DEFINITELY made up for our Rockmart performance- it was many times better, esp. "Maleguena"!! A good night's sleep, a decent breakfast/rehearsal really helped. We got a really good reaction from the crowd. I also made an article for Drum Corps Planet, an online/paper magazine (I was the only 3-valved instrument in Derby City Knights because my part has some really low notes for 2-valved horns)! ;-)

*On 8/25, we had an exhibition at legendary Adair County High School for their contest. We had an AMAZING performance that night!! The crowd really responded well to us, especially at the Soprano trio (in "One More Time, Chuck Corea") and the swing section of "Maleguena"! It was nice to see Jamie Hafley, Andrea, Angela Marr, and her sister, Lauren, there- really meant a lot!!

*8/31 was the DCA World Championships. W/O going into deep details (I have a blog up on MySpace and 3 or 4 on Facebook), we had a great trip. We ended up in 14th place with a score of 75.5 (nearly 10 points ahead of 15th place). It was BY FAR the performance of the season!! But maybe one of the 2 best moments of my playing career happened when an auditorium of 2,500 people gave us a 20-30 second STANDING OVATION! It put Jennifer Spainhour into tears; some of the Brass were fighting back tears too (*raises hand*). For a 1st-year drum corps, with all of the stuff that we went through this season, to get a standing O from a DRUM CORPS crowd, that was awesome!!! What a season!! next year promises to be even better!

    Derby City Knights
What a debut for us in Nashville this past weekend!! We've gotten so much good feedback and compliments from fans, other corps, and even other band/corps directors that were there! When you get people to stand and applaud for your WARM-UP chorale and tuning piece, then you know that it's going to be a good night. ;-)

If you want to check us out in person, we are playing at Adair County's preview show on August 25th. We are also touring Georgia on the 18th (Rockmart- suburb of Atlanta) and the 19th (Alpharetta). You'll be pleasantly surprised! ;-)
